Pain is often substandardized - often underestimated based on prior set backs - often looked upon at as low cost damage mechanism  based on man's erstwhile capabilities of overcoming grief.
Men - blessed with tendency to forget as they say, because yes they also forget that it is a curse.
Of many things we forget - we also forget that everything little or small has the potential to be painful. It will not hurt any less because it was less different than what it was -
However it is true when a leaf dries and falls off a twig, it marks a beginning of fresh leaf.
